What is Workplace Stress? How to Manage it
Introduction
Stress is a part of life, but it can
be managed by taking small steps. Here are some tips to help you manage your
stress at work:
Make a list of your responsibilities
- Make a list of your responsibilities.
- Prioritize them, then decide what you can do and
delegate.
- Make sure you get enough sleep, take breaks when needed
and eat well and exercise regularly.
Delegate, delegate and delegate
Delegation is a key factor in stress
management. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Delegating work gives you more time
to focus on other things, while also giving your employees an opportunity to
stretch their abilities and grow professionally.”
You can delegate tasks by:
- Letting people do what they're good at. If someone is
great at writing emails or filing documents, let them focus on that
instead of doing everything yourself. Sometimes it's okay for someone else
with less experience than you have in an area (like customer service)
because this person may be able to learn from your mistakes so that his or
her own performance improves over time.* Focusing on different aspects of
your business instead of just one department.* Using technology tools like
email rather than sending handwritten notes between departments so
everyone can see what everyone else's responsibilities are.* Encouraging
teamwork through regular meetings where everyone shares ideas and works
together towards common goals
Eat, sleep and play
- Eat well. You need to eat enough food in order to stay healthy
and energized, so make sure you're eating something every three hours or
so.
- Get plenty of sleep. Getting enough sleep is important
for your health—and not just because it helps you feel better! Your body
needs time to rest, repair itself and restore its energy levels before
going back into action again. If you don't get enough sleep each night,
your mood will be affected negatively by the next day at work (and
probably throughout the week).
- Exercise regularly if possible - working out helps
fight stress by keeping up with all those endorphins that make us feel
good! Try taking classes at a gym near where/when you live or joining a
local running group; both options have lots of benefits beyond just
getting fit physically...
Take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else
- Take care of yourself before you can take care of
anyone else.
- Focus on your own needs.
- Take a break from work and spend time with family or
friends, if possible. This will help you relax and recharge your batteries
so that when you return to work, it’s easier to focus on what matters
most: the job at hand!
Conclusion
As you can see, there are a lot of
stress management tips out there. It’s up to you to decide which ones work best
for your situation and be sure to implement them!
